Moving Functionally/Functional Yoga

Functional yoga is about helping you to move better – more freely, more fluidly, more easily. It is about real people with regular human bodies training to become less stiff and more supple.

If you feel stiff and restricted, if you feel your own muscular tightness is getting in the way of living your life, if you are getting lots of niggles and aches, then this is for you.

You will feel easier moving around life, niggles and aches will diminish, you will injure less and feel less old and creaky. Maybe just getting down on the floor to play with your kids will be easier. Maybe you will be less worried about your back giving way unpredictably. Maybe sitting in the car for long journeys will be pain free. Maybe doing a Couch-to-5K will feel possible. Maybe being on your bike for longer won’t be crippling.

It takes time – but getting all stiff and restricted also took you many years – but it is so worth it. Your body will thank you.

What it isn’t about is super-bendy contortion or forcing you into weird positions.

In technical jargon I’m training you to move within normal ROM, with good torso and joint stability, and then transferring those good movement patterns into more complex movement.
